Retrospect Ensemble join Hazard Chase

The arrival of Retrospect Ensemble has been warmly received by the British music establishment. The ensemble's choice of name illustrates its desire to be identified with a broad spectrum of repertoire. Retrospect's performances and ambitions embrace the practices, styles and aesthetics of the past with renewed vigour and a fresh approach that is typical of the ensemble’s inquisitive and energetic musicians. A flexible and dynamic ensemble, the group will perform in a large variety of different sized ensembles, from symphonic orchestra and chorus, to intimate chamber ensembles and a consort of voices.

The group will be launched at the Norfolk and Norwich Festival on 1 May 2009 and already has significant engagements in its diary, including engagements at the Edinburgh Festival and Chelsea Festival. An annual series at the Wigmore Hall in London will form the backbone of the ensemble's diary: the four concerts of its inaugural season in 2008/9 will include Handel's Apollo e Dafne, a New Year's Day programme of Mozart and Haydn, an evening of Bach Cantatas with Robin Blaze and Purcell's The Fairy Queen, performed with members of the ensemble's Young Artists programme.
