Sinfonia Lahti: Complete Sibelius Symphonies in Tokyo
About the Tour
In celebration of the 150th anniversary year of Jean Sibelius’ birth, “small town wonder” Sinfonia Lahti are preparing to present the full cycle of the Finnish composer’s symphonies in Japan this November. Led by Maestro Okko Kamu the ensemble will perform all seven of Sibelius’ symphonies across three concerts in Tokyo’s Opera City concert hall. These concerts will form part of a five-date tour in which the orchestra will also be making appearances in Sapporo and Matsumoto. Joining the orchestra for three of these concerts are violinists Petteri Iivonen and Mayuko Kamio, who will perform Sibelius’ Violin Concerto.
Sinfonia Lahti’s annual International Sibelius Festival, now in its sixteenth year, also marked this historic occasion with sold-out performances of Sibelius’ complete symphonic cycle at the orchestra’s home in Lahti.
