Laurens grew up in Oxford and trained as a cellist at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, graduating in 2018. Alongside performing core classical repertoire in orchestras and chamber ensembles in major venues across the UK and Europe, he enjoys experimenting with other playing styles, from backing folk and pop artists to free improvisation with his string quartet.
Teaching has also been a big interest, and he has given workshops at UCL, taught at CYM and worked with whole class beginner string players for Haringey Music Service.
Laurens branched out from cello playing after leaving college and worked as a production volunteer at the London Jazz Festival and in marketing at Oxfordshire’s Tandem Festival. He also completed placements at BBC Radio Oxford and IMG Artists in London before joining the Hazard Chase team in May 2019.
Outside of work, Laurens enjoys reading, vegetarian cooking and embarking on ambitious cycle rides. He also continues to perform and teach music.
