Film and Live Music Tours and Projects

Carl Davis

In 1980 Thames Television sponsored a theatrical production of Abel Gance's epic Napoleon.  The print had been painstakingly restored by David Brownlow and a new score was composed by Carl Davis.  The impact on the audience was overwhelming and Live Cinema - the fusion of film and live music - was reborn.  The rest is history!

A quarter of a century later, Carl has fifty silent film scores to his credit from the classic comedies of Chaplin, Keaton and Lloyd to historical epics including Napoleon, Ben Hur and Waterloo.  Chaplin's Mutuals consist of 12 early short films and are considered to be amongst his best works.  Carl has now written and recorded the music to all twelve.  These are available for live performance with an orchestra of 16/17 players.

"...one is struck by the inventiveness of Carl Davis's scores and his ability to reflect every level of the film he accompanies." The Financial Times
