Naked Byrd
Armonico Consort
Naked Byrd
‘Naked Byrd’ is a highly charged and carefully crafted programme of music by composers from all over Europe, not afraid of writing profoundly emotional works, often in very difficult and restrictive circumstances.
Powerful sacred works from the last 800 years are carefully intertwined with stunning fragments of plainchant by Hildegard of Bingen, and extraordinary violin improvisations. The programme includes Allegri’s Miserere Mei and Barber’s Agnus Dei (the virtuosic arrangement of his Adagio for Strings he set for voices).
‘A thoroughly spellbinding programme’ Gramophone Magazine
Where possible, performances of this programme take place in beautiful buildings, using candlelight, lighting and incense to create a sense of atmosphere.
Armonico Consort’s Naked Byrd recordings are on both BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM weekly and have captured the hearts of their listeners. Excerpts can be heard on the listen page of www.armonico.org.uk
