The curtain rises today on a new, all-Stravinsky double bill at Oslo’s famous opera house. The composer’s The Rite of Spring in a new choreography by Ina Christel Johannessen as well as his The Firebird in a revival of Liam Scarlett’s very successful choreography will be brought to performance by the Norwegian National Ballet and the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra under the baton of Andrew Litton. Further performances will be given on 22nd and 27th February, as well as 2nd, 3rd, 4, 6th and 8th March 2019.
Recently renewed Music Director of New York City Ballet Orchestra Andrew Litton holds positions across the world including the title of Principal Guest Conductor of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Music Director Laureate at the Bergen Philharmonic and Conductor Laureate at the Bournemouth Symphony. He guest conducts the world’s leading orchestras and opera companies and has a discography of over 120 recordings with awards including America’s Grammy and France’s Diapason d’Or. Also an accomplished pianist, Litton often conducts from the keyboard and is recognized as an authority on Gershwin, having extensively recorded and performed his works as pianist and conductor including the Covent Garden premiere of Porgy and Bess.
