Alexander is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most important young interpreters of the male alto repertoire in the UK and across Europe. He was educated at New College, Oxford, where he was a Choral Scholar and read Classics. His subsequent freelance career has seen him perform globally in ensembles such as The Gesualdo Six, The Tallis Scholars and Vox Luminis. As soloist, Alexander has appeared in some of Europe’s leading venues, including Wigmore Hall and King’s Place in London, Snape Maltings in Suffolk, TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, and BOZAR in Brussels. Alexander specialises in the music of Baroque composers such as Bach, Purcell and Handel, but is equally comfortable performing contemporary works.

2019/2020 projects include recording with the Freiburger Barockorchester, and touring Bach’s St Matthew Passion. Alexander will also be performing solo songs by the 20th Century Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi at the Salzburg Festival, and performing a programme for solo countertenor of JC Bach, Schütz and others at Musikfest Bremen. He will also be touring a programme of lute songs with the lutenist Toby Carr in Germany and Holland, featuring works by John Dowland, John Danyel and William Lawes.
