Danish conductor Christian Kluxen has extended his contract as Music Director of the Victoria Symphony through the 2022-2023 season. The news was announced as part of the events surrounding the opening concert of the 2019-20 season in Victoria. Christian, who began his tenure in 2017, is the orchestra’s tenth Music Director.

Speaking about the extension, Alan Hollingworth, President of the Board of the Victoria Symphony, said, “[Christian] has built a wonderful rapport with the orchestra and brought new ideas to the concert stage. He’s grown deep roots in our community and really connected with our audience.”

Christian’s work with the Victoria Symphony includes the Beethoven 250 festival, a marathon of all nine of the composer’s symphonies in three weeks, all four of Brahms’ symphonies, and the popular Symphony Splash concerts held annually in the Victoria Harbour.
