Following Masaaki Suzuki’s critically acclaimed Beethoven Missa solemnis (2018), Bach Collegium Japan have released a new recording of Beethoven’s last and greatest symphony on BIS. Conducted by Masaaki Suzuki alongside soloists Ann-Helen Moen, Marianne Beate Kielland, Allan Clayton and Neal Davies, the release comes at a time which fittingly coincides with the 250-year celebration of the birth of the composer, as well as the ensemble’s 30th anniversary this season.

“This is an exceptional release, with highly informative and interesting notes by Beethoven scholar Ernst Herttrich. The recording is everything we expect from BIS, and Bach Collegium Japan and their conductor Masaaki Suzuki are proving to be first-rate performers of an increasingly wide range of music. No one recording can capture every aspect of Beethoven’s magnum opus, but this one comes close and belongs in the library of every Beethoven lover.” –
