Following recent stand-out successes conducting the Orchestre National d’Île de France at the Philharmonie de Paris and SWR Symphony Orchestra in Stuttgart, Tito Muñoz has travelled to the UK for his London debut. Working with the BBC Symphony Orchestra for the first time, he will conduct a programme which includes the world premiere of Michael Hersch’s the script of storms, a work which sets nine poems by Iraqi writer and painter Fawzi Karim, who passed away in 2019, to music, and is scored for soprano and orchestra. Ah Young Hong, a singer who has deeply inspired Michael Hersch, joins orchestra and conductor for the premiere. Tito, Ah Young Hong and Michael Hersch have collaborated previously on a project spanning the Ojai and Aldeburgh Festivals, working with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra on the premiere of Michael’s I hope we get a chance to visit soon.
The remainder of the programme, which takes place at the BBC Maida Vale Studios, includes a 2015 work by New-York based composer Nina C Young, Agnosco Veteris, which will be given its UK premiere, and Johannes Brahms’ great Symphony No. 2.
