Anthony Marwood has been a champion of the Vasks concerto for many years. His recording with the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields was released on Hyperion in 2005. It attracted comments such as this one: “Anthony Marwood … delivers a wonderfully moving and intense performance of the solo part … a very special disc indeed” (BBC Music Magazine)
“Marwood’s sympathetic playing catches perfectly the musing feel of the whole work: ‘nostalgia with a touch of tragedy’, as Kremer put it. Both the orchestral playing and Hyperion’s sound could scarcely be bettered‘ (The Strad)
On April 10, Les Violons du Roy of Quebec, presents the North American premiere of Peteris Vasks’ Distant Light in Montreal, featuring director and violinist Anthony Marwood.
