Anna Tilbrook has collaborated with many leading singers and instrumentalists including Ian Bostridge, Lucy Crowe, Sarah Tynan, Barbara Hannigan, Emma Bell, Nick Daniel, Natalie Clein, Philip Dukes and Guy Johnston, as well as the Fitzwilliam, Carducci, Sacconi, Elias, Navarra and Barbirolli String Quartets. Since her debut at the Wigmore Hall in 1999 she has become a regular artist at all the leading concert halls and festivals. She has also accompanied Jose Carreras, Angela Georghiu and Bryn Terfel in televised concerts. Anna regularly coaches the Jette Parker Young Artists at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and for the past ten years has been coach and accompanist for Les Azuriales Opera Festival in Nice.
Anna curated a series of programmes for the Hull Big Chamber Weekend as part of the BBC’s commitment to the Hull City of Culture 2017, and in 2018, curated recitals at Saffron Hall for the BBC Radio 3 Big Chamber Day. Further recent engagements include her Amsterdam Concertgebouw debut and a performance at the Wigmore Hall, both accompanying Lucy Crowe, at Ripon Cathedral as a member of the Marlborough Piano Quartet, at LSO St Luke’s with Tom Norris, recitals at Carnegie Hall New York, Queen’s Hall Edinburgh, Wigmore Hall and King’s Place, as well as curating three weekend festivals at St John’s Smith Square: a Schubertiade, the songs and chamber music of Schumann and Mendelssohn, and “Vaughan Williams and friends”. She has given a series of recitals with violist Philip Dukes and performed at the Aldeburgh, Cheltenham, Oxford Lieder, Lammermuir and West Cork Chamber Music festivals, and at DeSingel (Antwerp), Alte Oper (Frankfurt), Anima Mundi (Pisa), Wroclaw Cantans, Perth Schubertiade, and Lyon.
In 2017 Anna and James Gilchrist celebrated 20 years of their duo partnership, performing together at the Oxford Lieder Festival Spring Weekend as an anniversary performance. They have made a series of acclaimed recordings of English song for Linn and Chandos records featuring the composers Vaughan Williams, Gurney, Finzi, Lennox Berkeley and Benjamin Britten. They have also recorded Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin, (Editor’s Choice in Gramophone) Schwanengesang with Beethoven’s An die Ferne Geliebte, Winterreise (BBC Music Magazine 2011 Christmas disc of the month), and recently released the Schumann Song Cycles.
Season 2017-18 saw Anna and James perform the third and final instalment of their recital series ‘Schumann and the English Romantics’ at the Wigmore Hall. With each recital including a new commission by British composers alongside Schumann song cycles, the final recital programme includes a world premiere by Jonathan Dove. Later in the season Anna and James toured throughout Scotland, performing Die Schöne Müllerin at Banstead Arts Festival, plus gave recitals as part of the Leicester International Festival, Stapleford Granary and at the Howard Assembly Rooms, Opera North.
More recently, in Ireland she appeared as Musical Director for the world premiere of John O’Brien’s The Nightingale and the Rose in Cork, also touring to Dublin and Limerick, and returned to the Oxford Lieder Festival and the Three Choirs Festival. This season Anna will perform with James Gilchrist at Oxford Lieder for an all Schubert programme, at St George’s, Bristol for Winterreise and will tour Scotland. She will also accompany Lesley Garrett across the UK.
Anna studied at the University of York and the Royal Academy of Music where she was made an Associate in 2009.
