About the Festival
Temple Church provides a uniquely historic setting for our Winter Festival. The deep musical traditions of the Temple are still embedded in the daily life of this atmospheric Church and we are delighted to be hosting another Festival of enriching music within its ancient walls.
This year, Temple Church Choir open the festival with repertoire that allows them to explore the renowned acoustics of the church. Conjuring an aura of mystery and excitement, we welcome Sansara back to the festival with a programme exploring the anticipation of Christmas. Led by ‘choral wizard’ Suzi Digby, the ORA Singers make their festival debut. This group has quickly made a name for itself with imaginative programmes and innovative presentation. Roger Sayer, Temple Church’s director of music, will treat us to an organ recital focused on impressive German repertoire. The Tallis Scholars – who need little introduction – will this year enchant us with a programmed based around Palestrina’s Hodie Christus natus est. To bring the festival to a close we are thrilled to be presenting Handel’s Messiah, directed by Greg Morris, and sung by the Collegium Musicum of London, an important date in anyone’s Christmas concert schedule.
The festival promises to be as wonderful as ever.
I hope to see you there.
